Lesson for October 12th

In our preschool classes this week, your kids learned that God helps up to do hard things! They heard the story of how God helped David fight a lion in order to protect his sheep. The verse for the week is an adaptation of 1 Samuel 17:47b: "It is the Lord's battle, not ours."

Take time this week to retell this story (found in 1 Samuel 17:34-37), and to take advantage of "teachable moments" with your kids to reinforce the message that God helps us to do hard things. When children are young is the best time to teach them to ask God for help through prayer. So, when your child is facing something that feels hard for them (which can even be sharing a toy or cleaning up a mess), help them remember that they can ask God for help. (Just make sure they don't expect Him to show up and clean up the mess for them! :) )
